Maryland residents are not happy with their state’s landscape.
According to the American Association of Museums and Artistic Associations, Maryland’s top ten scenic spots are the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Vernon in Rockville, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Potomac River.
According the association, Maryland has the highest number of “attractive” landscapes in the country, and only about one in 10 people will see a landscape that is more than four feet high.
Maryland is one of only six states in the U.S. that doesn’t allow people to set their homes on a national monument.
The state has been fighting to save the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument since 1996.
Maryland’s tourism industry is estimated to be worth $3.7 billion.
The industry is the biggest single contributor to Maryland’s gross domestic product, according to the Maryland Department of Tourism and Tourism Development.
In 2017, Maryland ranked the sixth most tourist-friendly state in the nation.
